Creativity

Before I get into my story about creativity I want share that it was so amazing at our school staff meeting tonight. My director Zaba shared about a recent trip. One this trip she was able to hear several testimonies about how people came to know Christ. After sharing part of her trip she shared how it has impacted her life. After a very emotional time for everyone we all prayed together. It was so exciting in so many ways. One to hear my director so passionate about her faith and the impact this has had on her life but also the fact that the teachers all were able to partake in this and experience this too. She was able to speak about how God alive in her. God is so moving within those teachers! I cannot wait to see what continues to come from this!

Tonight I attended a women's event at the church. The topic was "Brain Fitness." We discussed and did some activities about creative thinking/problem-solving. I was a little hesitant with attending but was pleasantly surprised. The activities and information was really interesting.

We started by discussing what creativity means. We all agreed that defining creativity is difficult and a wide topic. She offered this definition - Something new (like an idea)+ Something of worth. She then went into explaining it more. We played a game where someone quietly said the alphabet and then the other person said stop. Whatever letter the person stops on the partner has to think of a made up word that starts with that letter. It was fun but we realized that the first words that come to our mind are the ones we know. She then used this example to explain that when we are trying to problem solve the first things we think of are things we have already tried and know. This is why we need to do something new! We then continued to discuss emotions when problem-solving and with creativity. It was a good talk. She used a venn diagram to explain that it doesn't just take talent to be creative but that a person also needs knowledge and engagement to be creative.
