Over the years as I've studied about Afghanistan I've seen a trend and something that we talk about when we discuss international issues...Education. We talk about how important and how so many societies are lacking education and that has a big impact on societies. I have known this and talked about this but this week I saw this in a new light with my friends family here in Poland. She explained to me some issues going on in her family and how she is the only one who has actually been to school and on to college. I thought this was interesting and she even thinks this lack of education impacts how her family relates to each other. She explained that her parents haven't had more than an elementary school education. Something I didn't realize would be apart of the society here.
During the war education wasn't a priority and if money was tight and other things were needed for the family that took priority. Seeing the impact of education here in Poland, outside of Afghanistan was so moving for me this week. It shows me just how important education really is EVERYWHERE! Whether people appreciate it in america or they are cutting teaching jobs and how much teachers get paid, the fact is still true that education is important and we still need teachers!
In June I got to Afghanistan to visit with teachers and schools. I have been so excited for this but now I am seeing on another level of the common issue throughout the world that I am excited to encourage teachers and hear what they go through in their everyday work with students.
