When I arrived at their house after church Mirka (the mom) and I started making a salad. This salad had pickles, tomatoes, chopped green onions, and lettuce in it....so good! Her daughter decided two months ago that she is a vegetarian so she had to make her own food . I laughed because this is something my mom would have done too. We sat and talked and laughed a ton before we ate. As we sat down to dinner her husband and son all came to join us. They all actually speak pretty good english. As we were eating I explained that Mirka has me tell her a new polish word each day and she tells me a new english word each day. So they all said they wanted to know my word for the day. I was so excited I was going to say the word cup. Which I had learned the night before. Only I said it totally wrong. For someone who doesn't know Polish you could get this mixed up. I said poop instead. As soon as I said it and realized what I said we ALL died laughing. I couldn't believe I got it mixed up!!!! It was terrible! But quite a good laugh. After our meal we decided to take a walk down the road. It was a nice walk, granted, I was wearing heels. We walked and talked and laughed! Once we arrived back Mirka's mother and father came to visit. Her mother had made fresh croissants with chocolate (nutella) inside of them. They were again delicious!! Her mother had also brought their family photo album. It was really neat to see this couple growing up and their pictures. It was very enjoyable to be able to see their pictures. It's the history lover inside of me coming out. :) After her parents left I was dropped off at my apartment.
It seems like a pretty enjoyable day and simple. There were a couple of surprises that made it even better! When we were walking Mirka told me she didn't know her husband could speak english! He just started speaking to me in english when she had a hard time saying something. The other surprise which made me really happy was that Mirka told me that her mother rarely smiles or laughs and she spent most of the time doing both of those things today! They were such a sweet couple! This past year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary! That was my day. Simple but yet filled with so much joy and laughter! What a perfect way to spend a Sunday!
