Yesterday was my first day of shopping for groceries on my own! Since I am moving to the camps for the next week I needed some snacks to take with me. The store is just down the street from my schools so I walked down there. It was nice to walk down there. I went into the store and walked around. I had my list in hand and was able to make my decisions. I enjoyed just walking around and seeing the different things they had. I was also looking for nail polish remover... my director wrote it in Polish on a sitcky for me so that I could find it....which I did.
The prices here are very interesting. I was able to buy all the things on my list for about 17 dollars. The Ztoley (pronounced zoo wha tee) is worth about .30 in America. So while I look at something and it says 4,60 I think oh no...but really in America thats just about 1.50, pretty amazing huh? I couldn't believe it. When I finished there I was taken to a store which is like kmart for groceries. I was instructed on what food to buy and what to not but there. Soon I will be living in the town and so I needed to learn all of this. We bough this HUGE bottle of water for 1 Ztoley (.30). I could enjoy this! :) haha
When you check out and pay it is a very interesting thing. The lady is seated on a stool and you either bring your own bag or you are charged for a bag. Then she rings you up and luckily the price is on the register so I don't have to know the amount in polish. Then when she is done she tosses your receipt on top of your groceries that you then pack up. Quite humerous I think.
I am just excited that I was able to find all the stuff and do it on my own. It was my first step to being able to live in my apartment in a week or so. Hope all is well with you!
